Getting here
On Foot
Hopefully if you are within walking distance then you'll perhaps be familiar with the local area. If you're not local, then head for Crown Square, ironically the roundabout in the town centre at the West end of Hall Leys Park. Once there you will be about 500 yards / 450 metres / 7 minutes walk from the Church. Go straight up Bank Road from Crown Square, passing the Police Station on your right, Derbyshire Dales District Council offices on your left, then St Joseph's Catholic Church on your right and the Church, with it's distinctive slender spire on top of a square tower, is located on the corner of Oak Road and Bank Road. The main upper level entrance is about half way along Oak Road. The lower level entrance is accessed through the small car park, passing by the large oak tree, and along the side of the Church to the porch.

Following the road signs to Matlock there is a roundabout known locally as Crown Square which is in the heart of the town on the A615. The roundabout has a Crown on it, (except for over New Years Eve when it is removed temporarily). The A6 passes through Matlock and very slightly to the South of Crown Square the other side of Matlock Bridge. The Bridge is restricted to one way traffic away from Crown Square, so follow the signs to the town centre.. When you are at Crown Square, you are at the bottom end of Bank Road, which rises up the hillside quite steeply and is straight from Crown Square all the way to the Church, just 500 yards / 450 metres / less than 2 minutes drive up the hill. Pass by the Police Station, and the St Joseph's Catholic Church to reach the Church with it's distinctive slender spire on top of a square tower.
By Public Transport
Train: Matlock station is the last station on a branch line connecting to the city of Derby. The train service is provided by East Midlands Railway. Matlock station is also at one end of a local volunteer run steam train line, Peak Rail, that uses the extension of the branch line along to Rowsley South, with one intermediate station at Darley Dale. When you arrive at Matlock Train station, the Church is about a ten minute walk from the station, over Matlock Bridge, going round Crown Square to cross towards Bank Road. which is in line with Matlock Bridge, and up the hill to Oak Road. Pass by the Police Station, and the St Joseph's Catholic Church to reach the Church with it's distinctive slender spire on top of a square tower. There is also a taxi rank at the station and a bus station too.
Bus: The Trans Peak service connects between Derby and Buxton and stops in Matlock too, either at the Railway Station interchange, on the A6 or at the Bus Station, which is on the A615. Getting off at either location it is then about a ten minute walk as described above. There are links to travel websites below to help you find the bus service you need.

Parking
The Church has a number of parking options available in the area. On the premises is a small car park which can normally accommodate up to five cars, which is most often used by those who are less mobile. If you park here, please ensure to leave a suitable passageway for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Vehicles are parked at the vehicle owner's risk. The Church has an agreement with the Derbyshire Records Office on New Street DE4 3FE (<2 mins. walk) to use their car park out of their opening hours (Tues - Fri 9:30am - 5:00pm) . This means that parking can be used all weekday evenings and at weekends, except on one Saturday each month (between 9:30am - 4:00pm) through the year - dates are detailed on their website here. Mainly, weekday car parking is on streets around the Church which are subject to certain daytime restrictions on the duration of stay. When you park to come to the Church please ensure you have read and understood the parking restrictions for where your car is parked. Please be sensitive to our neighbours when parking your car so as not to obstruct driveways or entrances. Always ensure emergency vehicles can access all streets easily.
